Who We Are

Cowan Fellowship Church is a joint congregation of United Methodists and Presbyterians.  The church was founded in 1962 when the Cowan Methodist and Cowan Presbyterian Churches united.  Situated between "the mountain" - Sewanee, the University of the South and Monteagle - and the rest of Franklin County to the west, the church has always found its mission as a junction between "mountain and valley."

We gladly claim the gifts and insights that our traditions provide us to look out on the world as a ground of God's creation where people of all kinds may come together to pray and grow beyond the boundaries that divide and separate us.  Christ taught his disciples to prepare a table to welcome the stranger.  His spirit calls us out to be made complete by the living Word of God which is our life.  We pray that the Cowan Fellowship Church is just such a place where all people are welcome - where you are welcome!
