Holy Week Activities in Cowan

Maundy Thursday Here March 24 6pm.

We will be hosting the Maundy Thursday worship service this year. The word “Maundy” comes from the Latin word for command, so you could call Maundy Thursday “The Day of Christ's Command” - the command Jesus gave his disciples to love one another. Since Maundy Thursday is centered on that last supper of Jesus and his followers, we will be celebrating with the Lord's Supper. In addition, since Jesus expressed his love for his disciples by washing their feet, we will offer foot washing – a Cowan tradition these last several years – for all who would like to participate. The service begins at 6pm. We are delighted to have Jerry Jochem, pastor of the Abundant Life Assembly of God congregation, as our preacher for the evening. We have been getting good participation from our Cowan churches for this service. It is really remarkable that churches across different traditions can come together for a sacramental service like Maundy Thursday. It is an honor to be hosting, so let's join with our brothers and sisters on the 24th.

Good Friday, March 25

At 4:30pm you are invited to join as we take the cross that is currently in our church yard here at the Fellowship Church, and take it to Cowan First Baptist Church.  We will be stopping along the way for prayer at various places along the highway between the two churches.

At the time of this publication, Cowan First Baptist Church is considering showing a movie for Good Friday.  We will let you know more as those plans are solidified.

Sunday, March 27

6:30am  Easter Sunrise Service at the Cowan Montgomery Cemetery.

This is one of the oldest of our community worship events.  Although a cemetery, in some ways, may seem like an odd location to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, it is indeed a beautiful place, looking out on the awakening dawn as the sun rises over the mountain, illuminating the beautiful covelands that surround Cowan.

L. Z. Johnson will be preaching.  There will also be special music.  We meet under the ancient cedars up where the cross is located.
